ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 concludes with a discussion of the solutions derived from el oro del barrio, or specifically from the “Indohispanic knowledge derived from life experiences” (Montiel et al., 2009: 4). I include solutions for increasing the number of Latino professionals at the macro level by supporting targeted public policies and mentoring programs and challenging the white racial frame. I also include macro-level solutions—specifically, having Latinos make a commitment to greater gender equality in traditional Latino households. Finally, I discuss micro-level solutions by providing advice from the Latino professionals to the next generation of young Latinos hoping to break into the professions.
