ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 discusses personal values and core beliefs as critical to building trust, respect, and care as part of teamwork. The activities help individuals and local colleagues unpack topics such as cultural values and implicit biases through the creation of visual Thought Objects. Later, working with your remote team, this preparation can open the door for both enlightening and practical conversations, from debunking cultural stereotypes to preferences for team arrangement and structure. For example, will your remote team be lateral or hierarchical? Deeper, more nuanced cultural questions will demonstrate your interest, curiosity, and sensitivity to your remote teammates. Select some of these self-investigation activities to do individually or with your local colleagues prior to meeting your remote team as a way to prepare for future interactions with them.
