ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 introduces several terms and theories that describe how various characteristics of media (e.g., synchrony, richness, and social presence) impact how stories are transmitted, received, and interpreted by audiences. Through various forms of visual storytelling, you will learn to believe and trust your teammates while cultivating their belief and trust in you. Building a personal connection will help as you negotiate cultural differences and can inject empathy into situations that might otherwise cause conflict. Learning about each other on a personal level also improves the quality and frequency of communication between teammates. In turn, enhanced communication often leads to more creative and in-depth project outcomes. Whether your team chooses to do one or many, this chapter’s storytelling activities provide engaging ways to learn about each other through activities that help to develop greater trust.
