ABSTRACT

Agenda setting is the process by which issues are selected for attention by government. Agenda setting is generally defined as the first phase of policy making, before formal consideration of policy proposals. As a scholarly perspective, agenda-setting research focuses on the linkage between the social environment and the polity, highlighting the role of ideas, current events, media coverage, and conflict expansion in the origin and prioritization of issues. Institutional gatekeeping also plays an important role in controlling access to the political agenda.
