Fiscal and financial distress of local governments is a worldwide phenomenon. This phenomenon has been a key subject of inquiry, one that has attracted great interest to all local government stakeholders (academic researchers, practitioners, state and local government organizations, suppliers, media, and the public, among others) due to its significant implications on the political, social, and economic state of affairs. The present entry provides an overview of this phenomenon, with a particular emphasis on the fiscal distress of local governments in Israel.
