ABSTRACT

The quest for government performance and accountability took its most recent form as the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) of 1993. There have been similar, numerous attempts to make the federal government in the United States accountable since the 1940s. This selection will explore the metamorphosis of government performance and accountability at the federal level; assess whether or not the federal government has achieved its targeted objectives; and achievement or not, whether the federal government can incorporate lessons learned to improve performance and accountability.
