ABSTRACT
This article defines and describes the various forms of privatization applied to local government services, the rationale and opposition to privatization, and evidence on the results and extent of privatization. It discusses the logical expansion of privatization to public–private partnerships and the emerging concept of government by network. Local government services are a daily necessity.
