Pneumonia—hospital acquired

Nosocomial infection is defined as an infection occurring more than 48h after hospital admission, or within 48h of discharge. Nosocomial pneumonia accounts for 15% of all hospital-acquired infections and 31% of infections acquired in the intensive therapy unit (ITU). It is a cause of considerable morbidity and mortality.
