ABSTRACT
Thyroid crises occur more commonly in women than men. In patients with poorly controlled hyperthyroidism they may be precipitated by an intercurrent illness, especially an infection, trauma, thyroid surgery, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus or labour. A thyroid crisis may also occur in eclamptic patients with otherwise well-controlled thyroid function.
