ABSTRACT
The interaction between mental health and criminal behaviour and the resulting contacts with the police, the criminal justice system and the prisons are extremely complex and most of this work lies within the specialist field of forensic psychiatry, but a general understanding of the law relating to mental health and criminal behaviour is essential for any medical practitioner.
