In 2005 Routledge published A Handbook for Doctoral Supervisors, written by Stan Taylor and Nigel Beasley. It was intended as a research-informed guide for doctoral supervisors and was favourably received. The book became a recommended text for supervisor professional development programmes in institutions in a number of Western European countries and in Australia and New Zealand. However, it is now out of date in three main ways.
