2. Co-supervisors

Historically, at least outside the US and countries with doctoral systems based upon that model, supervision has usually been undertaken by a single supervisor. But, over the past three decades or so, there has been a move in many countries, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and others in Western Europe, towards co-supervision. The intention has been to enhance the experience of doctoral candidates by reducing their reliance upon a single individual and giving them access to a broader range of expertise and support.
