ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how persuasive discourse is created through language by strategically identifying and describing actions and actors. It is possible to identify and describe one and the same thing in two different ways. This chapter illustrates all of the persuasive strategies which help orators to present their persuasive messages in the way they intend. Alongside referential and attributional strategies, this chapter also illustrates the argumentative strategies that help speakers lead the audience to the intended conclusion. The chapter ends with a very valuable section on the strategic use of pronouns.
