ABSTRACT
The first chapter outlines Francesco Robortello’s system of humanities and spells out his original contribution to the language arts. It focuses on the strict connection among topics, rhetoric, poetics, history and moral philosophy and on how their systematic organisation is based on a new appraisal of Aristotelian philosophy. The chapter also examines Robortello’s conception of philosophy and provides a critical assessment of the most recent secondary literature.
