ABSTRACT

According to the ABC model, the most important aspect of human psychology is not the As but the Bs. With some knowledge of the ABC model, cultural differences can be evaluated when, during therapy, it is applied to Middle Eastern people. Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) and Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) share common ground about Bs, though some small differences exist. REBT is one of several psychotherapeutic approaches that can be differentiated from other types of cognitive behavior therapies. CBT therapists often apply REBT components in their therapies but they call their approach CBT. Irrational beliefs are related to various psychological disorders and psychological distress. Cognitive schemata are mental activity patterns that are determined by the past experiences and learning of the person, shaping the situations that are encountered by the individual in sorting, distinguishing, and coding. Core beliefs are methods of thinking and conditional beliefs are underlying assumptions.
