ABSTRACT

The Human Resources function plays a crucial role in talent management. This chapter focuses on the role HR can play in driving competitive advantage through talent liberation. Starting with evidence and interviews, we look at the way the HR role needs to evolve in order to meet the challenges of the future of work. We then build on the Talent Compass and explore four ways in which HR can develop and lead their organisation towards talent liberation: applying the principles of evidence-based decision making; broadening the talent ecosystem; adding value through formal process and promoting a positive talent climate. Each of these areas are introduced with reference to research. Practical examples and case studies are also given to illustrate each theme. Although written primarily for an HR audience, this chapter is also relevant to other leaders. The chapter concludes with coaching questions to help the reader to apply what they have read.
