ABSTRACT

Leadership and staff development in this area are essential to be able to implement culturally responsive practice. Frameworks and practices to support cultural responsiveness (CR) bear similarities to evidence-based wellbeing practice. CR research emphasises the importance to students of feeling they belong and are cared for. Schools appreciate frameworks to help guide their practice in the area of CR. The field of CR contains many frameworks and practices ready to be adopted to support student belonging and wellbeing. The field of cultural responsiveness contains many frameworks and practices ready to be adopted to support student belonging and wellbeing. Increasingly, in countries with a colonial history, the moral obligation to remove barriers to wellbeing and acheivement for indigenous peoples is acknowledged. In education, there has been a growing awareness of, and demand for, culturally responsive structures and practices.
