ABSTRACT

Designing, implementing and embedding a whole-school approach to wellbeing promotion must be considered as a major, long-term change management project. Wellbeing change takes time – it’s a marathon, not a sprint. It can also be overwhelming for wellbeing change leaders and all staff to have a huge number of wellbeing priorities and actions pushed on them. Leading wellbeing promotion is an ongoing process requiring school leaders to work effectively with different stakeholders and through different periods of change. The chapter outlines wisdom regarding the overall process of leading change. Clusters of schools in Australia and New Zealand have been working on wellbeing together for some time. Regular review of policies and documents ensures wellbeing remains prioritised, brings newcomers up to speed with team standards and reminds others of them. Involve diverse staff in agreeing and writing the documents and standards they aspire and agree to meet.
