ABSTRACT

Many older churches have windows of stained glass in which the white light of the sun is colored and shaped to take on the form of haloed saints and conventional symbols of faith. In a real sense that is what all of religion does, and in a special way religious art. Here we will survey the basic nature and prominent examples of religious painting, sculpture, architecture, music, drama, poetry, and novelistic literature. In all we see that what great art does is give ultimate reality forms and meanings accessible to us humans in our own form and with our own experiences.
