ABSTRACT

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has advised that driverless vehicles should have a sufficient level of security to guard against cyber-attacks before they are allowed to operate in fully autonomous mode. Connected vehicle services bring lots of new features for the car and the driver, but could allow hackers to spread viruses or remotely access a vehicle’s controls. The ABI are major supporters of autonomous vehicles, because of the potential to dramatically improve road safety. Mobility-as-a-Service is potentially interesting shift away from vehicle ownership. The European Commission have brought forward draft guidelines on providing vehicle certification exemptions, or type-approvals, for automated vehicles through a special compliance assessment procedure in respect of new technologies not yet covered by regulation. Intelligent speed adaption is when the speed of the vehicle is limited at all times and on all networks.
