ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the role that attachment plays in the connections developed between leaders and employees. It focuses on the attachment around the leader and the follower. Leadership is one of the most complex elements of the workplace and provides some of the richest material for studies of attachment. G. A. Yukl work presents a couple of gaps that can be addressed by attachment. Attachment styles serve as a key predictor of the leader-follower relationship. Research on attachment styles and the leader-follower relationship demonstrates how a deep connection can develop between the leader and the follower. Trust may be an underlying mechanism that is created by sharing the same attachment style. The research lacks the ability to confirm theories of situational impacts on leader-follower relationships based on attachment styles. The attachment styles are measured using the Relationship Scales Questionnaire, which was developed by D. W. Griffin and K. Bartholomew to measure the four different attachment styles.
