ABSTRACT

The importance of the ultrasonic welding field is progressively increasing with the advent of newer materials and various hurdles confronted by conventional welding processes. This recognition highlights the need for good documentation of the knowledge acquired by the various investigators so that it may serve as a resource for field engineers and researchers. There has been an increase in applications of ultrasonic spot welding (USW) in many fields and industries, such as the electrical and electronics, automotive, aerospace, medical, and consumer goods industries. This chapter supplies an in-depth description of the USW process parameters. This knowledge can be applied to real industrial problems of joining dissimilar metal sheets so that welding is done in the best possible way to get optimal quality characteristics.
