ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on writing for social media, as well as standards for evaluating their effectiveness. On any social media venue, the strategy should be focus on enhancing the organization’s relationship with its publics. An emerging phenomenon within social media is the microblog. Twitter is the leading online information and content site for social media. A wiki is a hybrid between social media and websites. Wikis serve as forums for team writing. Most wikis feature material that is continually expanding, primarily because readers can add their own information. Some wiki sites are open to all viewers; others require readers to join a group. As with other venues associated with new technology, wikis offer a few specific dos and don’ts when it comes to writing. Much writing for wikis follows the same style as for blogs: short, balanced and professional.
