ABSTRACT
In the fall of 1987, the nomination of Judge Robert Bork to the U.S. Supreme Court became the most hotly contested Supreme Court nomination of modern times. It ended with Bork’s rejection by 58–42 on Oct. 23. But before it was dead, the Bork nomination put some zip into the perpetual controversy over how to interpret the Constitution.
