ABSTRACT

In 1991, the first issue of the scholarly periodical International Relations appeared in Bratislava. It was the first journal which consciously sought to examine foreign policy issues and the position of Slovakia in a new international context. The foreign policy of Slovakia is based on the fact that it is one of two successor states of the former Czech and Slovak Federal Republic. The recognition of the Slovak Republic took place in the usual way, through the exchange of diplomatic notes. An important moment in the establishment of Slovakia as a member of the international community was its admission to the United Nations on January 19, 1993. The Slovak Republic became a participating state of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe on January 1, 1993. As early as January 1993, the Slovak government formulated and made public a concept indicating the priorities of Slovakia's the foreign policy.
