ABSTRACT

All the country states of the Arab World have a Bedouin component in their population. The main social organization of the Bedouins is made up of the tribe and its subsegments. Another image of a changing social order in the Arab World is that of the new Saudi entrepreneur. The "secret" of success for the new Saudi entrepreneur is the accident of geology, education, government service, and the economic boom in the 1970s. The new Saudi entrepreneur is a modem, educated individual reacting to the oil boom and to the tremendous wealth flowing from it. Many of the peasant migrants perceive their work sojourn as temporary. Many of these migrants have effected a marked change in the village class structure. In the 1950s and 1960s, education for the villagers was the fastest path of upward social mobility.
