ABSTRACT

Political thought and action constituted a form of ideological criticism. Ideological criticism, direct political action, and social agitation have been the principal media through which such ideological groupings as the Socialist and Communist parties have exerted a type of influence that in many cases has been decisive in the transformation of the juridical institutions associated with the hacienda system. Given the limitations represented by the objective conditions of historical circumstances in the country, the political parties opt for a program of "radical reformism" can come about only by means of a gradual process of incremental transformations. Thus, any change in favor of the dispossessed sectors is good if in the final analysis it contributes to a global transformation of society. A basic struggle for reform, then, plays a fundamental role in the political action of the groups.
