ABSTRACT

A variety of health care models have been tested in the effort to discover how to make health care accessible to the rural population. The design concept of the Projet Santé Rurale (PSR) called on the implementing team to identify the health problems which the public health service. In hindsight, one can say that US Agency for International Development judgment was heavily influenced by the tempting prospect of establishing the route to fulfillment of the Alma Ata resolution. Every stage of the project saw copious documentation of activities and field staff observations. The PSR’s ongoing analysis of rural health service financing was coordinated with a multi-sectoral research activity on recurrent costs in Sahelian country development programs that was conducted during the same period under the auspices of the Club du Sahel and the Interstate Committee on Drought Control in the Sahel. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
