ABSTRACT

The goal of any of the reforms, can only be the speediest improvement of the well-being of the greatest number of Russia's inhabitants, including guarantees of what everyone needs: jobs matching qualifications and providing regular pay. Without land reform, Russia will not be able to return to the time when not only did the nation not depend on food imports and foreign aid, but it actually exported food products. A bold start in reform came about through the private initiative displayed by many enterprising Russians in the period 1989-1992. The frequent comparisons made in recent years between the economic situation in Boris Yeltsin's Russia and that of the post-Versailles Weimar Republic can be extended in yet another way. Russians, no longer operating on the proposition that the economy can be built "in one separate country," cannot escape the consequences of the development of modern technology.
