ABSTRACT

The most important farm prices, as well as those of raw material, investment goods and communal services, were kept at low levels by administrative regulations, particularly fixed or ceiling prices, while most of industrial and product prices were unregulated. During the development of socialist Yugoslavia, price policy and price formation, being an important component of economic policy, changed and were reformed at the same pace as there was change and reform in overall economic policies and systems. As early as 1956, there was a change in price policy as contractual price formation was, in principle, handed over to purchasing organizations while for grain guaranteed prices and for industrial crops minimum prices were introduced. In the new convention for 1981-1985 no criteria for price setting are given. However, reference is made to the fact that the 1980 law on price criteria applies to the agro-food sector.
