ABSTRACT

Peace Research has found an approach to foreign policy which should produce friendship between nations if there is any possible basis for friendship. Religious men, such as Bishops, often advise diplomats to meet hostility by turning the other cheek and returning love for hate or friendship for hostility. The problem that appears very often in international affairs and one which divides hawks from doves is the question of what one should do when Sylvania and Metaguay are hostile to the other. Followers of Martin Luther King and Gandhi will advocate nonviolent action as the appropriate response to hostility. The Knight's reaction of meeting hostility with hostility and violence with violence is the reaction of primitive men. The Queen's Strategy of meeting hostility with hostility, and of meeting hostility with a friendly response is the response of civilized and disciplined men.
