ABSTRACT

The decision to withdraw one squadron of Mirage from Malaysia was an essential part of the phase out of Mirage and the introductin of F-18s and a very old decision. It is an extension of Australia's involvement in the region and not an indication of withdrawal. The introduction of F-18s avoids the introduction of long-range maritime reconnaisance Aircraft, but it is integrated with other reconnaisance and cooperation with the Malaysians in training missions in that area.
