ABSTRACT

United Nations (UN) Division has an important task in the coordination of other ministries' involvement in UN policy and in the host of other international organizations. The International Atomic Energy Authority is in closest touch with the Department of Atomic Energy, WHO with Health and Family Planning, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture is in charge of work with the FAO. Expenditure on the United Nations and other international organizations comes to only about five percent of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA's) 1978-79 expenses, so that the UN definitely does not weigh heavily on the MEA's pocketbook. The UN relational apparatus in MEA has at its base the UN mission in New York. When one reads of events in the UN, one most frequently encounters the deliberations of the General Assembly, or decisions made by the Security Council.
