ABSTRACT

The illiterate woman with no real training soon found herself replaced by a machine or by someone who was better trained or better educated. The pressure on a woman whose husband earns 10,000 forints a month may be just as great as on the wife of a semiskilled laborer who barely makes enough to feed himself, much less his family. The woman whose husband earns a minimal wage must work to feed her family. The society imbues women with a desire to be a part of the labor force, but unfortunately from a very early age it also establishes patterns of employment that mitigate against women ever being able to obtain a completely equal status.
