ABSTRACT

The self-imprisoning education in second-class citizenship is a continuous process that is evident practically from the minute the baby is born. The role identification strengthens as the child observes division of labor everywhere. Stories tell of girls in the kitchen, of young men slaying dragons to win the hands of little girls whose only role is to stand in gawking admiration of the glorified hero. Abstract motherhood is praised and glorified, but changing the diaper, working at home, and holding a job are generally neglected. Even Hungarian men of letters distort women's real contribution to society. Sexual prejudice resulting from the adopted values then shows up in the attitudes that both sexes adopt from childhood on vis-a-vis the roles that men and women are supposed to perform.
