ABSTRACT

Students at other schools had fewer comments about political orientation, although those who did comment strengthened the results of the survey. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) students especially liked the intellectually stimulating environment in their department. They liked "talking to smart people" and "learning new theories and ideas". The dislikes of MIT students centered on the narrowness and lack of relevance of the economics taught to them and the stifled social life. The Yale students echo much of what the students at the other schools like about graduate school. They cite intellectual stimulation, freedom, and interaction with fellow students. Opportunity and freedom are the terms that Stanford students use most often to indicate what they like about graduate school. A few mention their fellow students and the faculty. Like the MIT and Harvard students, the Chicago students stress the intellectual stimulation as the reason they like graduate school.
