ABSTRACT

The exploitation of solar resources will take place at a pace set by economic markets and governmental influences. However, if government initiatives are to be effective, they will need to facilitate the creation of an industrial infrastructure for solar energy development. The measure of industrial achievement in solar energy development will be determined by the real need which will, in turn, establish a real market. Achieving the usage goals specified will involve much more in the way of an industrial infrastructure than simply additional production capability. Some of the component goals for solar development may be further broken down and evaluated using examples in areas in which Westinghouse is actively working and has developed some experience. In the residential/commercial market, the usage of the solar energy is for conventional heating and air conditioning for buildings and the provision of domestic hot water.
