ABSTRACT

In Chapter 7, The Fraternal Dimension and Trauma, we consider the vicissitudes of fraternal wefts in the processing of trauma. To this end, we examine the concept of fellow-being complex and the shift from fraternal bond to partnership, on the one hand, and the notion of trauma, on the other. Next, we look at two groups of siblings at the beginning of their psychoanalytic treatment. The first one, four-year-old twins Gina and Mora, are able to use their relationship as a form of support to deal with the trauma of their mother’s mental illness and their parents’ divorce. The second one, identical twin brothers, provides an example of traumatic psychic structuring.
