ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is based on the conviction that for an understanding cum an appraisal of the play of forces that govern the contemporary social world – opulent, subtle and intricate as these may be – the questions that need to be raised must be in profoundly cultural terms. It discusses a network of many concerns associated with the crucial challenges of living in a multireligious society. The book shows that the subtle intricacies of the competitive forces that help or thwart the advancement of human interrelationships cannot be really comprehended without a vigorous engagement in cross-cultural conversation. It outlines learning to deal with the theme of religious diversity and understanding why it is urgent to carry forward a program for an authentic meeting of the religions of the world.
