ABSTRACT

Ideological battles keep changing from one phase of history to another. Evidently, the way cultural diversity has been perceived and theorized is reflected in political actions. Some of these views have been referred to and their implications analyzed with the intent to explore how to foster solidarity-in-diversity among people. It is argued that an attitudinal change can help to let emerge what is described here as a sense for a “larger identity.” The theme of clash of multiple social identities is discussed in some detail with the help of examples since it is significant in the context not only of collective but also of personal experience, enabling transformation of the status quo. Members of civil societies can thereby enhance the possibility for achieving global peace.
