ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter aims to explain foundation degree qualifications and situate them in the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ). It covers length of study and entrance qualifications. It examines the progression opportunities available after completion of a foundation degree and considers personal motivation and strategies for success. It introduces the need to develop academic skills. It then considers how to develop a personal network of family, friends and colleagues, including finding a workplace mentor. There is a section on preparing a physical space to study and tips on creating a study schedule and starting to think about time management.
