ABSTRACT

This chapter recognises that time management, handing stress and coping with examinations play a significant role in the lives of students. It offers practical strategies for managing time pressure such as planning. It suggests the construction of tangible charts which help to identify how students may currently be misusing time and ways in which this might be overcome. Hints to reduce the feeling of stress such as taking control of time, exercise and reducing the consumption of alcohol and caffeine are offered. Guidance on identifying and using support mechanisms such as the effective use of tutors and tutorials and colleagues are given as well as appropriate procedures for more extreme situations. The chapter also discusses a variety of forms of examination such as essay, multiple choice and ‘open book’ and offers ways to prepare and approach them.
