ABSTRACT

This chapter further introduces Foundation Degree students to the concept of reflective practice. It specifically focuses on reflective writing, the production of a professional development portfolio and creating a professional development plan. It takes students through the process of creating different forms of portfolio offering guidelines on its size, content and nature. They are introduced to Schön’s reflection on and in action and practical suggestions are made to enable them to make reflection part of their practice, particularly in work. SWOT analysis, Myers-Briggs and other aptitude tests are suggested to help self- reflection. Linking student observations to previous learning and further reading are identified as integral. This advice is extended to the creation of e-portfolios and the way in which either can be used in support of application for career advancement.
