ABSTRACT

Blackrock is the world’s largest financial asset management company. While their success can be attributed to many factors, including their financial and technological acumen, the leaders readily acknowledge that their commitment to developing a world-class talent organization is central to their mission. Of the different parts of the Learning Map, the Intentional Behavior Targets are probably the most important, followed by the Intentional Development Mantra. The Behavior Targets set the learner’s intention and prepares his/her brain to learn something new. The format of an Intentional Development Plan follows the 70–20–10 outline, identifying development tactics for each component of the model. Intentional Development work is not a one-and-done but requires a regular cadence of development—try something, reflect on how it plays out, look for the expected impact, adjust if necessary, and try again.
