ABSTRACT

In Wilfred R. Bion’s terminology, this book is “a realization of K”, i.e. the result of “transformations” of the author’s “thought” by “reversals of perspective”, the overcoming of “preconceptions” and of “fear of catastrophic change” by “realizations” obtained by “growth in” his capacity for “tolerating frustration” and by his “negative capacity”. In the “psychoanalytic galaxy”, Bion writes that he limited himself to “setting out relationships unnoticed” by his predecessors. Some say that there seem to have been “several Bions”, depending on the focus of his work during different periods, whether on groups, psychotics, epistemology, or mysticism, but Bion himself was able to conserve the unity of his work thanks to a precious “container” of thought.
