ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter seeks to distill implications and lessons by putting the foregoing analysis of the Tajik multiparty mediation into a broader context. The chapter reviews the book’s main arguments in the light of interrelations between internal and external dimensions of peacemaking. The chapter then discusses the meaning of “success” in the Tajik mediation, highlighting the issues of dilemmas and priorities in peacemaking and turning attention to post-agreement developments in Tajikistan. The chapter also addresses the contemporary relevance of the Tajik multiparty mediation for practice and scholarship in the field of conflict management. It highlights the contributions, limitations and implications of this book from both conceptual and empirical standpoints and indicates avenues for future research.
