ABSTRACT

Methodology, or methods, refers to the array of techniques, and sometimes tools, that are used in a therapeutic context in order to achieve the aims of the therapy. Horses in their methodological sense bring a number of aspects. The couch as a technique influences, use of the horses as technology immensely. In equine-assisted psychotherapy and coaching, the horse becomes the chair. Many times we have seen how horses help release every narcissist from the burden of being special; they are not spectacularly successful but neither are they particularly tragic. The task through which learning about addiction takes place is very simply to connect and care for the horses. Within equine-assisted psychotherapy and coaching, there are a number of ways in which the horse can be positioned as a unique methodology. This chapter explores how horses allow us to de-centre. It investigates how once de-centred, we remove the veil from our experiences and perceive how we are interconnected.
