ABSTRACT

A working connection is a particular kind of connection. Erik Erikson tells the story of when S. Freud was asked what constituted a happy, healthy life he responded, to live and to work. Work meets important psychosocial needs in societies where employment is the norm. The British Horse Society stage one will allow them to seek employment in any horse yard in the UK or abroad. The Centaur Club is a space where young people can experience being with horses and others, and thereby learn about their own place in that world. Harness the Horses is a programme is for people in transition, either unemployed, homeless or both. Homelessness is also widespread and is both a symptom and cause of unemployment and substance abuse, with approximately 4 in 10 women prisoners leaving prison without accommodation. Self-harm in women’s prisons is an unfortunately common issue.
