ABSTRACT

In this chapter, phase 2 of trauma work is reframed as an opportunity for the inclusion and integration of creative intervention and expression. The therapeutic benefits and rationale for creative interventions, which often center on the role of metaphorical expression, are discussed and explored through a trauma-focused lens. Specific creative modalities, such as play therapy, sandtray therapy, and art therapy, are introduced as effective mediums for trauma work, and considerations for clinical application are also addressed. Case examples are presented to illustrate the concepts, and the chapter concludes with a keyword assessment, list of experiential activities, and supervisory discussion topics.
