ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates on several techniques mentioned earlier that are unique to puppet-assisted play therapy (PAPT). These techniques include bibliotherapy, puppet meditation, deep breathing exercises, imagery in the ocean, and storytelling. When a play therapist uses books to read stories to children, the process is known as bibliotherapy. Advantages and outcomes of bibliotherapy, such as problem solving, creativity, expression, and mastery, align well with the benefits of PAPT. Adaptations can be made from original storyline characters to fit any puppet characters in students playroom. Deep breathing exercises using bubbles were mentioned earlier. Exercises combining deep breathing with imagery can double the efficacy when a puppet and/or puppet theme are paired with guided imagery. Children exhibit deep and passionate communication with puppets. Witnessing therapeutic puppetry in the playroom is witnessing magic.
